Hi,

In another plant forum I frequent I came across this photo (published for public use) of Aechmeas by the pool. They really complete that wonderful look in my opinion. There is both orange and red plants and I was plain curious as to whether it is separate species of A.blanchetiana (orange and red) or that it is the one species that is turning red for example.

What are your thoughts ?

Hi Wal,

Interesting question!  I've just made some comments on this in that other blanchetiana post.

Cheers, Paul

Red to green variation exists in the gene pool. I have and I'm sure many have noticed red and green varieties in the same bunch of seed wether it be a green plant as the seed source or a red one. I recently grew seed from an Aechmea aqueliga varigated and it produced red and green plants. Same went for Ae. bracteata. Someone I know grew Ae. strobilina and got red and green plants.
