Have had this big beauty for a few years .
Was hesitant to plant it out as it gets so big .
Finally one is flowering , but disappointed that only one top is forming .

My Ananas Tricolor flowered last year, I was excited at the prospect of lots of pups after seeing the fruit of this one covered in pups. I was pretty disappointed when the fruit rotted and I only ended up with one large pup growing from the plant.

Noticed the fruit is getting mature now on this one ,
Its fallen over and a few buds are growing , so I will have a few extra .
The lady who gave it to me handed over a box with a massive rotten fruit that had about 20 tops in the typical cristate fashion .

I have also seen many cristate fruits on Ananas variegata , this seems to be the norm rather than an abberation .

image loading seem to be down will add later

My Ananas Tricolor has decided to flower again, so far the fruit looks normal.

I've got my fingers crossed that this time it may turn out normal.

I will have to try and taste one of these , but not the variegated one , I have one plain one with a fruit almost ready.
Local grower in Mossman had a big patch of these he sold for cut flowers , getting much more than he did for the normal fruit he grew.
